Through the skies

Be in flight

In bad weather
Enduring
Doesn't ruffle a feather

Strength and courage
Overflow
Never left discouraged

Vision never shrouded
Though
The skies are clouded

Through ever-changing days
Constancy
Remains

Cool night
With stars shining bright.
Music plays loud
Drawing quite a crowd.

Behind the scenes
Something is unseen.
Friend walks away.
Comes back in dismay
Carrying a towel
Comes a howl.
Hands it to me.
A begging plea
"They're going to
Kill it if you
Don't take it home
And make it your own."

I take it from her.
Notice black fur.
Look inside.
Eyes wide.
Black and white fur
Just shiver.
Tiny kitten lays
On my chest and stays.

I sit outside
For mom to arrive.
When she finds out
What this is about
She agrees
Without my pleas.
Now, to the store
Get food, litter and more.
